Tahmoor is a small town in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales in the Wollondilly Shire area. Tahmoor is 90kms south west of Sydney CBD. Its neighbouring towns are Thirlmere and Bargo.
Tahmoor has 3 major supermarkets including Aldi, Woolworths and Bilo, and a variety of small businesses, a medical centre and Gental Dental Care. There are prominent fast food outlets, restaurants, bakeries and cafes. Tahmoor has hairdressers, post office, bike shop, gyms, sports ground, netball courts, skatepark. Schools include Tahmoor Public School for Kindergarten to year 6, and Wollondilly Anglican College an independent school serving students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Secondary students also attend the nearby Picton High School
The Mermaid Pools is located in Tahmoor, and they are a local natural wonder where keen bushwalkers are rewarded with views of cascading water and swimming holes surrounded by picturesque sandstone canyon walls. The walk to Mermaids Pools from the bridge is approximately 3km, or around one and a half hours return walking time. There are no facilities available and it is recommended that persons take their own drinking water. Tahmoor also has a swimming hole known as ‘Pot Holes’ to the locals that can be found on the corner of Rockford Road and Charlie’s Point Road.
